Differences in Blame-Like and Forgiveness-Like Judgments between Young People, Healthy Older People, and Older People with Dementia

The objective of the present experimental study was to compare how young people, healthy older and people with dementia cognitively integrated<em> </em>three factors (Intention, Consequence, Apology) when making blame-like judgments (prosecution revenge) forgiveness-like (resentment reconciliation). Thirty-four (<em>Mage </em>= 22.12, <em>SD 3.44), 22 71.82, 8.69), 18 75, 10.06) participated in study. participants were confronted 12 scenarios built by combining three for each moral judgment. Analyses variance repeated measures applied data. Whatever type judgment, differed from about number considered. Young used information cues (Intent, four judgment tasks (prosecution, revenge, reconciliation, resentment). In comparison, gave greater weight Intention. contrast processed similarly. cognitive impairment prevented differentiating into two categories reduced integration judgments. These findings might be useful clinical practice.
